Completely renovate the behavioral healthcare wing of the hospital, updating existing conditions to conform to current ADA and IDPH codes. Changes included separating two patient groups (Geriatric and Higher Functioning) within the wing, each having a consultation room, exam room, laundry, clean/soiled utility room, kitchen, dining area, and activity area. Common areas consisted of a nurse station, staff lounge, and a group quiet room. Due to the high census of patients the project was required to be constructed in two phases.
J.P. Salemi, Inc. worked with the hospital staff to determine the logistics of insuring patient safety while conforming to infection control standards, state health department regulations and local code enforcement policies. Security doors and barriers were erected to segregate patient areas from construction zones, while keeping egress routes open in the event of an emergency. Staff was advised of utility interruptions and off hour work was performed to minimize the impact on patient care. A temporary nurse station was constructed to maintain visibility and accessibility to the patient population.
A state of the art behavioral heath facility was delivered to the satisfaction of the hospital staff and administration. All inspections by local and state agencies passed on the first round, allowing the hospital to open the wing on the date promised.
