Renovate and update 250 patient rooms located on six floors of the hospital, as well as their supporting amenities and facilities. These included secure medication rooms, storage areas, nurse stations, locker rooms, conference areas, and medical gas and emergency/critical power installation. All renovation activities were to take place with the highest sensitivity to patients and strict adherence to infection control requirements.
J.P. Salemi, Inc. worked together with facility management and hospital administration on this design build project. The team developed a new design concept for the typical patient room. Layouts, samples and materials were fabricated and submitted for team approval. Due to the sensitivity of the occupied areas and the possibility that a scheduled area of renovation may be affected by patient census, a flexible construction team was paramount. As a result, J.P. Salemi, Inc. adapted to a changing renovation environment with a plan designed to optimize productivity. Construction began on a room-by-room basis, proceeding to other areas of patient floors as availability and opportunity allowed.
The three-year renovation process successfully transformed and updated patient rooms, as well as all associated facilities and amenities. As the construction process evolved, changes were incorporated in the plan to accommodate current and future patient care needs and staff requirements. Through continual value engineering and construction efficiencies, the overall project came in within the allocated budget and met the client's high expectations.
